Excuse me while I bawl my eyes out watching my baby turn ONE!

I've been avoiding it. Talking about it, thinking about it, and trying not to look at it in the eye. Iris is one. I don't think I've ever struggled with any of the other kids turning one, but this one has hit me hard. She is starting to be so capable. I hate it! I want her to be snuggly, lovey, and tiny forever. It really has been hard to accept. I also struggled with what to post about her being one. A run down of her horrible medical issues? I decided no, let's start from the beginning.
 Iris in utero.
Just a couple hours before she was born. IMG_9661

She had a very short umbilical cord and she had to hang out there for a few minutes. I was very adamant that her cord not be cut for awhile.

Not even a day old. Since she was born at a birthing center we were sent home about two hours after she was born though it felt like mere minutes. We arrived home at 4am, so she was only about 6 hours old?

Jerry was trying to see if her head was small enough to fit into his mouth. He is a very attentive father.

Day 1, first time with her eyes open.

First Bath. My mom and Dad came over the next day, which was technically her first day. It's confusing, but my Mom and Kathleen were able to give Iris her first bath.

This picture is so special to me! Two awesome grandmas, two ladies I look to for advice, and me two moms.

My Mom, Kathleen and her sister Janet all helped Iris get into her first outfit. :)

First time in the swing.

Two days old already. I wanted to stop my feet and make time slow down, she was so so sweet.

This picture literally shatters my heart into a million pieces. I took a ton of pictures breast feeding because I knew there would be a day she wouldn't be nursing and I would miss it. I do. I miss her skinny little body pressed up to mine and how she started right into my eyes, so intently and so full of love.

Day 3: Iris cried all day. She pooped so much that I called our pediatrician. I was so concerned for her.

Antibiotics and a bililight was our first ER stay. We were there for three days.

Jerry and the kids came to collect us. I've never been so happy to see them in my life!

Six days old. I was able to take some newborn pictures.

  1. Beautifully done!
The second picture of you holding her after birth shows so much love and relief in your face. It is fantastic.
