St. Nicholas Day

Sorry, no pictures! What was I thinking!!??

Today we celebrated St. Nicolas day a little different than usual. The nice thing about traditions is that you can switch them and tweak them and mold them into your own. This year we celebrated by having German dinner for dinner. Bratwurst, napa cabbage, onions and red potatoes all sauteed with caraway seed. It was delicious and filling. For dessert we had Altwiener Apfelstrudel (apple strudel). We are German, but I googled the recipe for the dessert and got the dinner recipe from my Dad.

After dinner we wrote Santa Claus letters and included them in the kids' newly polished shoes. They were very excited to leave them out and even more excited in the morning to find golden chocolate coins.

Christmas time is so magical, but it's also a lot of work. I'm so glad I spent the time planning and figuring the logistics out for all our fun advent activities. I'm sure in the upcoming year it wont be so easy and not all of the kids are always going to be thrilled about some of our activities, but I believe that we've had a very magical holiday so far.
